Our District Meetings are now complete and all Grand Knights should be focused on the remaining five months of fraternal activity. Only three months remain until we meet in Topeka for the State Convention and then only two more months until the end of our fraternal year. It is time to re-evaluate where we are, as compared to where we need to be in our membership recruitment and our programs. We all want to do, and must do, our part in spreading the “New Evangelization” of the Church. What better way can we live this year’s theme of, “I am My Brother’s Keeper”.
Have we checked on those needy families in our community to see what their needs are and that these needs are being met? Have we held our fundraisers to adopt the increasing number of seminarians and help them with their financial and spiritual needs? Have we offered our time and talents to our priest and parish to improve parish life? Have we done our part to help mothers-to-be with crisis pregnancies so they have an alternative to abortion? These are just a few of the things that we, as Knights of Columbus are called to do. We are all called by God and our Holy Father to do our part to make our world better. More numbers in our councils and in our order will enable our programs to be further reaching and will allow us to complete more of the work that God has set out before us.
One member, per Council, per month is the approach to membership encouraged at the Supreme Convention in Denver this past August. It is a simple, straight forward and effective approach to recruiting that really pays off. If you don’t believe that such a simple concept can be powerful consider this. Even though we are half way through this fraternal year, if we can recruit one member, per Council, per month for the remainder of the fraternal year we will easily reach our annual membership goal.
The Knights of Columbus does many wonderful things everyday. As members we can be proud of our record of service, support for our priests and the work we do in our parishes and community. The “Did You Know” series is intended to keep the good works done by the Order first and foremost in your minds. Remind your councils of these successes at their business meetings and use them when recruiting new members.

A new Knights of Columbus Marian Prayer Program dedicated to Our Lady of Guadalupe (patroness of the Americas) was launched Aug. 3 at the Supreme Convention in Denver. The prayer program will continue through next year. Specially prepared framed images of Our Lady of Guadalupe will be used in the prayer program. The images have unique features: they were touched to the original tilma of St. Juan Diego, which bears the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe, and were blessed by Pope Benedict XVI in Rome. In addition, the frame for the image is sealed with soil from Mexico’s Tepeyac hill, where Our Lady of Guadalupe appeared. Click here view a schedule of where each icon will be in the state. Please contact your local council for prayer service times and locations.
