Family Life Program

Keeping families strong and growing has been a major goal and one of the biggest reasons for the success of the Knights of Columbus. Family unity is a goal worth working toward to ensure families remain strong and viable. It is one of the primary responsibilities of each Council to make certain that all families become involved in the parish and the community activities. The Knights strongly encourage each council to promote family life.

Family of the Month

The Family of the Month program is designed to recognize a particular family each month for their service to their council, church and community. Select a family and present them a certificate of recognition (Form #1843) at a Mass or other significant gathering to acknowledge their outstanding service. To have a family recognized by the Supreme Council, a form must be submitted to the Supreme Council Department of Fraternal Service before the 15th of each month. You can use the form in the Family of the Month booklet or submit the form on-line at the Supreme websites - http://www.KofC.org. On the 15th of each month, Supreme will randomly select 100 families to receive a gift which they mail to the winning recipients.

Family of the Year

Each Council should select a Family of the Year, complete the form in the Family of the Month booklet and submit it to their District Deputy by March 10. The District Deputy will select a District winner which will be submitted to the Diocesan Judge by March 20. From these District winners, the Diocesan and State Family of the Year will be chosen. Diocesan winners and State Family of the Year winners will be recognized at the State Convention.

Family Activity of the Year

Each Council should prepare a scrapbook containing photos and a detailed description of a favorite Family Activity. Submit the scrapbook to the Family Life Director by April 1. Three scrapbooks will be chosen from these entries to be recognized at the State Convention. The one judged best will be forwarded to Supreme for consideration in national awards.

Knights of Columbus Family Week

Each Council should hold some type of Family Activity such as a breakfast, picnic or dinner to show their appreciation for their member families during Family Week. See the calendar of events for the dates in August.
